GOP lawmaker says Trump is a ‘troll’ and a ‘liar’ after ‘viral’ tweet
Republicans in the House are accusing President Donald Trump of being a “troll” and a “liar” after a tweet on Friday accusing Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) of “virus.”
“Senator Kirsten G. Gillibrander is the ultimate ‘liars’ and ‘stupid’ person,” Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho) tweeted.
“Just a heads up that her anti-Trump virus is spreading like wildfire.”
“I am proud to say I’m running against her in 2020.
She’s a liar,” Simpson added.GOP Rep. Jim Jordan (R, Ohio) also criticized the tweet, tweeting that the tweet is “not funny” and “not real.””
Kirsten Gilligans virus has spread like wildfire in her district, and @realDonaldTrump is spreading it like wildfire.
She is a cancer patient.
@realDonaldTrump’s attacks on her are sickening and disgusting,” Jordan wrote.
Gillibrand responded to the tweet in a tweet later on Friday morning, saying she was “sickened and disgusted” by the comments.
“The people of #ILoveGilligans deserve better,” she wrote.
Simpson responded to Jordan’s tweet later in the day, saying “Gill” was not Gillibrands real name.
Gillianibrand has been a vocal opponent of Trump, especially his handling of the mass shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs on Wednesday that killed five people and wounded six others.
She also criticized Trump during a recent town hall meeting and a town hall on Fox News on Sunday.
The president on Friday tweeted that Gillibranda was “not running for reelection in 2020.”
Simpson’s comments come amid renewed calls from Republicans for Gillibrandi to step aside and for the president to be impeached.
Gillingham, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, called on GillibrANDs impeachment on Friday.
“If Gillibranders words and actions have led to her current ‘health’ crisis, then she is not fit to serve on the United States Senate,” she said in a statement.
“If she is unfit to serve, then Congress must remove her from office and hold her accountable for her actions.”
Republicans have long called for Gillies removal from office.
Trump has faced multiple controversies in recent months over his response to the Las Vegas mass shooting and other events, including a tweet in which he suggested the massacre was “better” if people could have been “shot in the head and killed.”
In June, Trump fired off an offensive tweet at Gillibrandy after the senator tweeted a photo of him on a plane, in which Trump’s plane looked like a “Nazi airplane.”
“When will the Congress impeach the stupid Kirsten.
A total loser, doesn’t even know what the F-word is!”
Trump tweeted.
In February, Trump tweeted that he would not have nominated Gillibrando to the Supreme Court, and that she “won’t get re-elected.”
